Natural History Preserve
Description of fund:
The natural history preserve fund is a fund dedicated to helping protect the waterways and wetlands of the Tulalip Tribes. This preserve will be 47 acres of protected land which includes almost 50% of an estuary wetland and represents some of the last remaining undisturbed estuary habitat in the Snohomish River estuary.
Why it is important:
This fund is important because through it the Tulalip Foundation will be able to protect a wide variety of natural habitats and natural features such as:
- a small salmon bearing stream
- a tidal slough and stream mouth
- an estuary wetland complex
- deciduous riparian forests and a variety of other mixed forest types
- an old apple orchard and clearing
- dense coniferous stands of Douglas fir and western red cedar
- western hemlock hold trees over 75 ft high and likely are more than 100 years old
How the Tulalip Foundation helps with this issue
The Tulalip Foundation helps with the natural history preserve by being dedicated to helping protect the sensitive environment and help restore the degraded areas. They will help educate people on the importance of the natural history preserve and help the community to enjoy this beautiful and protected piece of land.
